The main purpose of the Senior Area Accountant is to assist the CFO and group management in the achievement of their objectives of an adequate and effective internal control environment, risk management process, governance process and implementation of financial strategies as it relates to stores within the Group.

The main functional responsibilities are:

  • Direct, manage and motivate a team of Area Accountants
  • Ensure adherence to Group policies and procedures
  • Review and ensure the accuracy of the store’s books of account
  • Manage the timely submission of management information
  • Review and ensure the satisfactory implementation of internal audit findings
  • Assist with completion and review of store budgets
  • Training of new staff on accounting policies and procedures
  • Preparation of financial statements for the trading trusts
  • Preparation and submission of income tax returns for the trading trusts
  • Monitor and manage compliance with risk management and governance processes
  • Perform analytical procedures on store financial information to assist with the implementation of specific financial strategies; including:
  • Develop and implement a compliance checklist
  • Co-ordinate assurance function with other internal functions
  • Defining applicable policies to manage the business
  • Review and ensure completeness of store submissions required for approval by Support Office

Minimum Requirements:

  • CA (SA) (preferable) or similar
  • 5 to 10 years relevant working experience preferably in a retail environment
  • Good understanding of operational systems
  • Good knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Project)
  • Kerridge knowledge would be an advantage
