Some of us have already punched out for the holiday season, but a few still remain. Here’s some more advice on staying motivated at work in the countdown to the festive break.
Stay organised
A good way to stave off any workplace lulls is to keep yourself organised. It is far too easy to think that you’ll sort it out when you come back but remember, a fresh start is not so easy when you’ve left last year’s clutter about the place. Staying organised is a great way to both stay on task to your last day and to start the new year productively.
Put a plan in place
Having a daily plan in place will help you know exactly what needs to be done and when. Putting important tasks or difficult tasks at the top of the list will ensure that you get these out of the way and you don’t push them into the next year. Normally, we’d advise a daily, weekly and monthly plan but for this time, daily will do just fine in this case.
Prioritise
It’s a good idea to never leave any unfinished work before starting on new work, no matter how tedious the current work might be. (And regardless of the time of year).
Set goals and rewards
If these last days are really dragging, it can be a great idea to set goals and rewards for accomplishing them. It’s the festive season after all, so treat yourself!
Clear your environment
The space in which you work in is crucial for working productively. A cluttered and untidy desk can greatly affect the way your brain works and how you handle the tasks at hand. Having a clean and clutter-free desk will make you feel less stressed, work faster and help you concentrate better on the work that needs to be done and will make the return to work a much nicer experience.
Take a break
This might sound odd when these efforts are all preceding quite a large break, but don’t forget to have normal breaks during this last stint. Breaks are crucial to productivity no matter what time of year.
By keeping the above in mind, you can give your productivity at work a real boost during what is often a really hard slog. ‘Checkin out’ too early can make this part of the year so much more difficult than it needs to be. Stay on task, focused and organised, so you can start the holidays feeling accomplished and content.
